Kailua Village Business Improvement District

District Council Member Angel Pilago and Kailua Village BID
President Eric von Platen Luder witness Hawaii County Mayor sign the
Ordinance establishing Kailua Village Business Improvement District as the
first on the island (third in the state). The Kailua Village BID is slated
to launch clean and safe initiatives throughout the District as early as
January 2008.
Over the course of the past several years, the physical appearance and general ambience in and around Kailua Village has noticeably deteriorated. So much so that hotel employees along the Kohala Coast routinely advise resort guests not to bother coming to town as it is dirty and crime ridden. Not only has the decline had a negative impact on businesses, it has also diminished the quality of life for those who live here.
Eric von Platen Luder, of Huggo's and past president of the Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce, rallied our community around the proven Business Improvement District (BID) concept for Kailua Village .
